The Polito Sailing Team participates every year in two of the most important university competitions in the sailing scene: the 1001 Vela Cup and the SuMoth Challenge.
Both events represent not only a sporting challenge, but also a unique opportunity to test ingenuity, innovation and team spirit.
The 1001 Vela Cup is an international university regatta that brings together teams from universities all over the world. Each team designs and builds skiff-type racing sailing boats, with the aim of combining high performance and sustainable materials. The event takes place every year in Italy and represents a concrete testing ground for students and young designers who wish to confront the real challenges of naval design. Participating in this competition allows the Polito Sailing Team to put months of work into the water, experimenting with innovative engineering solutions and verifying their effectiveness directly in the regatta.
The SuMoth Challenge, on the other hand, is an international competition that combines technology, design and sustainability. University teams must develop and build a Moth — a flying boat equipped with foils — using eco-friendly materials and processes. The challenge is twofold: to achieve high performance and to minimize environmental impact. In this context, the Polito Sailing Team brings its multidisciplinary skills into play, combining mechanics, aerodynamics, composite materials and digital design.
Participating in these competitions allows the Team to grow year after year, improving not only from a technical point of view, but also in the management of the project, the group and time.
Through the 1001 Vela Cup and the SuMoth Challenge, the Polito Sailing Team carries out its mission: to combine passion, innovation and sustainability to build the sailing of the future.

Le Polito Sailing Team participe chaque année à deux des compétitions universitaires les plus importantes de la scène nautique : la 1001 Vela Cup et le SuMoth Challenge.
Les deux événements représentent non seulement un défi sportif, mais aussi une occasion unique de tester l’ingéniosité, l’innovation et l’esprit d’équipe.
La 1001 Vela Cup est une régate universitaire internationale qui rassemble des équipes d’universités du monde entier. Chaque équipe conçoit et construit des voiliers de course de type skiff, dans le but d’allier haute performance et matériaux durables.
L’événement a lieu chaque année en Italie et représente un terrain d’essai concret pour les étudiants et jeunes designers qui souhaitent se confronter aux véritables défis de la conception navale.
La participation à cette compétition permet au Polito Sailing Team de mettre à l’eau le résultat de mois de travail, en expérimentant des solutions d’ingénierie innovantes et en vérifiant leur efficacité directement dans la régate.
Le SuMoth Challenge, quant à lui, est une compétition internationale qui allie technologie, design et durabilité.
Le team doit développer et construire un Moth – un bateau volant équipé de foils – en utilisant des matériaux et des processus écologiques.
L’enjeu est double : atteindre des performances élevées et minimiser l’impact environnemental.
Dans ce contexte, le Polito Sailing Team met en jeu ses compétences multidisciplinaires, alliant mécanique, aérodynamique, matériaux composites et conception numérique.

La 1001 Vela Cup è una regata internazionale universitaria che riunisce team provenienti da atenei di tutto il mondo. Ogni squadra progetta e costruisce imbarcazioni a vela da regata di tipo skiff, con l’obiettivo di unire prestazioni elevate e sostenibilità dei materiali.
